Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver - Big City Liberals

There has been a lot of buzz and chatter about how the Liberals managed to retain most of their seats in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, despite the extreme levels of arrogance, incompetence, and corruption that so completely described the last 13 years of Liberal rule.

Having lived in all 3 of these cities, my opinion on this strange occurence is based on my own perception of the people I rubbed shoulders with each day on my way to work. I have many friends in these cities but, these places are lousy with communists, welfare cheats, homosexuals, gang bangers, drug abusers, homeless people, and a wide assortment of the perpetually enraged. All of these fringe dwellers/nutbars have the right to vote, and not surprisingly they tend to congregate in the larger cities as opposed to hanging around the street corners of their home town and taking their chances with the local boys.

Alas, my opinion is likely to be derided as homophobic, or homeless-ophobic, or gang-ophobic... you get the picture.

But, I happened to stumble upon a column by David Frum (dated a full 13 days before the election) who manages to agree with my take, albeit from a different angle, and with less vitriol.

The Martin Liberals are the party of downtown Canada. They are the party of downtown values and downtown interests. And they are adamantly determined to impose those values and those interests on the rest of the country. That fact undergirds all their talk about "the Charter" and "Charter rights." Just as they refused to respect the democratic process in Quebec, so they do not respect the democratic process when it comes to fundamental questions of faith, family and society.

Downtown values don't go over well in small town Canada. "Small Town" Canada meaning people who go to work, pay their taxes, and play by the rules.

From the CBC we get this little gem

On Wednesday night, Liberal incumbent Keith Martin apologized at an all-candidates debate in the Victoria suburb of Colwood. He told the crowd the ad was a gross error that does not represent the Liberals' view of the military.

He said the ad was one of a series of 12 and it should never have been released.

"Some idiot went and sent it out with the other 11 ads, and it was never sanctioned by the party, never approved, and we are completely appalled that this went out. We apologize to the men and women in the uniform," he said.

And then we have this from the CTV:

"In an interview Thursday morning on CTV's Canada AM, Martin said he approved every one of the harshly critical ads -- including one that suggested the Tory Leader would use the military to occupy Canadian cities."

Did Keith Martin just call Paul Martin an idiot? I don't remember Keith being that critical of the Liberals when he was with the Reform party.

Liberal Attack against the Canadian Forces - WITHDRAWN

As some of the people who visit this blog may know, I am a 25 year veteran of the Canadian Forces.

As such, my opinion of the Liberal party is somewhat coloured from being at various times during my career, described by my own government in national newspapers and the CBC, as illiterate, a racist, a neanderthal, a loose cannon, a serial wife beater and worse whenever the mood suited them. I have also been touted as a boy scout with a blue hat, and a poor unfortunate soul not capable of making decisions for myself, and a recipient of Welfare.

None of these slurs, attacks and depictions accurately described me or my peers.

Over 25 years, I endured an almost daily onslaught from the national media, but the recent Liberal Attack Ad (which has been hastily withdrawn mere hours after it was posted on the Liberal Party website) is possibly the last straw.

I am too upset, angry, and disappointed to comment further, so I submit the following post from ProudToBeCanadian

Liberal attack ad WITHDRAWN. Totally and blatently misleading? (sic)

I suspect that after 12 or more years of lying to Canadians and trying in vain to fool them into voting Liberal and fooling and scaring them into being frightened of that scary Stephen Harper and millions of conservatives across our Canada, the Liberals and their liberal-friendly ad firms are now more scared of themselves than anything.

And so they should be. And so we all should be.

In yet another sign of their horrendous panic, they have withdrawn, without explanation, one of their series of 12 new negative attack ads aimed at freaking Canadians out and into voting Liberal. (Freaking Canadians out is clearly the only way Liberals feel they can win).

It’s off their web site now. But not ours!

The ad’s implications are horrendous. Not only is it completely and utterly misleading, it shows YOU, Canadian, what they think of you!

They think YOU’RE utterly stupid.

And they feel as though they must FREAK CANADIANS OUT in order to garner their vote.

This is a party in abject desperation and a campaign in complete disarray.

I just watched that Liberal ad on CTV with regard to the military. I am one pissed off soldier. I have worn the uniform of my country for 21 years and I defend Canadian democracy every day I put on my uniform. I am sure all the political pundits think it is a cute attack ad but I do not! Right now soldiers are in Afghanistan fighting for the freedom of the Afghan people, extending Canadian values, helping oppressed people, and the Liberals are portraying our military, MY military as people who will go into the cities and suppress freedom. This is utter BS and I didn’t think even the Liberals could sink so low. It is disgusting to even hint that our honourable men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces would suppress freedom in our great democracy. I would gladly give my life to defend my country and our democracy, a great many men and women have. It is obvious the Liberals do not respect those who serve in Canada’s military. Child Care - Future Liberal Boondoggle

Child Care is a good thing. However like anything else, some types are better than others.

The Liberals believe, and want you to believe as well, that their plan to spend 5 billion dollars on child care for the next 5 years, increasing to 6 billion for the next 5 years untill 2015 is the best option. Let's see, that works out to 1 billion per year till 2010, then 1.2 billion per year till 2015. According to Stats Can, there are a little over 1.5 million kids under the age of 4 in Canada, that means that Paul Martin and Ken Dryden will at the very most, be spending a whopping $667.00 per child, per year.

The Conservative plan is to give the parents of each child under the age of 6, $1200.00 per year. When you multiply this by 1.5 million kids you get 1.8 billion dollars. Drag this out to the year 2015 like the Liberals did, and you get 18 billion dollars vs the Liberals 11 billion.

The Liberals have the gall to ask you how much Child Care you can buy for a lousy 1200 bucks, when they are only planning on spending $667 with their program. It looks to me like you can get almost twice as much, but my math skills may be off.

The Liberal solution doesn't make any sense to me. After all, these are the the same people who insist they know more about Health Care and Gun Control than anyone else. I wouldn't be surprised if the first 2 billion dollars of their Child Care plan went into designing a registry of all the kids in the program, and in salaries and wages for the teams of data entry clerks and database administrators to handle the waiting lists.

The Liberals clearly don't trust you with your own money, as shown by their "Beer and Popcorn" mentality. They arrogantly believe that they know what's best for your kids. They believe that if you were given a cheque for $1200.00 you probably wouldn't spend it in any of their pet schemes, and they'd be right. So the only thing they can do to ensure the survival of one of their projects is to take the option of choice away from you.

Personally, I would rather have 1.8 billion dollars poured back into the economy by parents buying whatever they require for the safety, comfort, care and education of their children, than have the Liberals spend 1.2 billion dollars of hard earned tax-payer's money on a project with questionable beneficiaries.

In a couple of years, after the Auditor General has had a look at this program, will we be calling it TotScam?

Liberal Party of Canada - Election 2006

Given that the current polls suggest that 36% of Canadians still support the Liberal Party, could this mean that the depth and breadth of Liberal Party corruption has not been fully uncovered? And, in fact, only the tip of the proverbial iceberg has been drawn into the spotlight by Auditor General Sheila Fraser and the subsequent Gomery enquiry?

Could it possibly mean that the web of deceit and corruption goes far, far beyond the backroom dealings with the likes of GroupAction, Earnscliffe et al, and in fact there are many more as yet unnamed and undiscovered people who stand to lose a lot of money if the Liberal party is defeated?

I'm not usually given to conspiracy theories, but how could anyone in their right mind continue to support a party that has inflicted as much damage to the country as the Liberals have? How could anyone, with a straight face, proclaim that the Liberals are the preferred choice to lead Canada away from corruption, away from over-taxation, and away from the Democratic Deficit that has plagued Canadian politics for atleast the last 12 years, unless they stood to gain monetarily?

Could it possibly mean that when the polls report that 36% of the respondents support the Liberals, what it really means is that 36% of the respondents are either criminals or hopeless illiterates?

I hope not.

Having lived in this country for almost 40 years and having not even once been invited by Decima, Ipsos, Environics or the CBC to participate in any kind of poll whatsoever, I am naturally suspicious of the recent polls which gleefully maintain that the Liberals have a resounding lead over the Conservative Party of Canada.

I'd love to be able to convey my thoughts, feelings and assorted anecdotes to a poll taker, but I've never met one.

I consider myself to be a slightly above-average kinda guy with simple pleasures, and a deep distrust for Liberals given their historic record. Can it be that as much as I consider the poll-taker to be the rarest of the human species, that it could possibly be me and others like me that are the rarities?

The Conservative Party of Canada has done a piss poor job of selling themselves and their leader, so the Liberals have managed to influence public opinion by lying.
Now that the greater mass of the electorate believe the Liberal bullshit about "hidden agendas" and other crap, the Conservative's job of talking up their leader has become 10 times more difficult. Every time there is the slightest fuck-up at one of the thousands of BBQs they have planned for Stephen to attend this summer, you can bet there will be a CBC camera crew at the ready to document every seedy detail.

Also, these BBQ stories will have larger headlines, and double the space of any story about Gomery or how deep in shit Paul Martin is .

By the way, the answer is "E", and if you answered correctly, you are in the minority.

Ever since I retired from the Canadian Armed Forces, I have been trying very hard to live the life of pensioned luxury that I always dreamed would immediately follow my retirement. Unfortunately, I soon discovered that unless I was willing to live in a tent, cook my meals on a coleman stove, and limit myself to only very occasional use of my car and motorcycle, my dreams of a carefree lifestyle would have to wait.

In fact, the stress free life that I tried so hard to live, was extremely stressful.

So, I have accepted a management position at the airport, and since then, I have been totally immersed in my work.

Although I have been negligent in the care and feeding of this blog, I avow to once again resume the sporadic postings that this blog has been famous for.

Things have changed since my last post, so please allow me to catch up....

1.   Paul Martin and Bono are in the midst of a trial separation.
2.   With Bono out of the picture, Paul has rebounded into the arms ofJack Layton, who, quite hilariously accuses the Conservatives of sleeping around.
3.   This guy called Gomery has really pissed off the Liberals who were hoping that nobody would notice that they were a bunch of thieving, lying, fraudulent, scumbags.
4.   Steve Harper is rallying his troops to bring the Liberal party down as soon as possible. But, since Paul Martin has bought the support of Canada's Socialist party with 4.6 billion dollars of your money, the only way this can come about is if Harper makes a temporary deal with the Separatists. Please note that unlike the Liberal deal with the Marxists, which will cost 4.6 BILLION, the deal the conservatives will have to make with the Bloc will end up saving 4.6 billion dollars of your money.

Looking at this simply from a battered taxpayer point of view, I'm throwing my support behind Harper.

I've been drunk, and I've been high. But I've never been drunk or high enough to even THINK about doing this:

TORONTO -- An accused drunk driver tried but failed to foil a police breathalyser after stuffing his mouth full of feces. "I don't think alcohol alone would make you do something as disgusting as that," Insp. Tom McDonald said.

Arrested Sunday after his pickup was pulled over on a highway just outside Barrie, Ont., the 59-year-old driver was put in a cruiser and taken to a police station for testing.

Sgt. James Buchanan said the prisoner vomited, urinated and defecated in the rear of the squad car.

After arriving at the station, he said the man grabbed a handful of his own waste "and placed it in his mouth, attempting to trick the breathalyser machine."

It didn't work, Buchanan said.

Breathalyser tests registered twice the legal limit of alcohol in the man, he said. The man was charged with impaired driving.

I'm not sure if he was too drunk, or too high, or not drunk and high enough.

Whatever, I hope that somebody takes my car keys away before I get to the point where I think this is a good idea.

Not to be outdone by CBS and their totally fake Bush documents, ABC trots out their own fake document, and tries to pin it on the Republican party.
I wonder what the perpetrators were hoping to accomplish by presenting this 'memo' as a GOP document?

Fox News has the scoop:

The New York Times has reported that media outlets obtained that controversial memo highlighting the political benefits of the Terri Schiavo case from "Democratic aides,” who said it had been distributed to Senate Republicans.

But according to Fox News contributor Fred Barnes, top Senate Republicans, including Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and majority whip Mitch McConnell never saw the memo. What's more, the talking points were printed on blank paper, with no letterhead, date, or signature and contained numerous factual and typographical errors.

And ABC News, which first ran the memo under the headline "GOP talking points," now says they never meant to imply that it was created by Republicans.

This what ABC actually said about the memo:

March 21, 2005 — The following memo listing talking points on the Terri Schiavo case was circulated among Republican senators on the floor of the Senate.

This is an exact, full copy of the document obtained exclusively by ABC News and first reported Friday, March 18, 2005, by Linda Douglass on "World News Tonight with Peter Jennings."

Teri (sic) Schiavo is subject to an order that her feeding tubes will be disconnected on March 18, 2005 at 1p.m.

The Senate needs to act this week, before the Budget Act is pending business, or Terri's family will not have a remedy in federal court.

This is an important moral issue and the pro-life base will be excited that the Senate is debating this important issue.

This is a great political issue, because Senator Nelson of Florida has already refused to become a cosponsor and this is a tough issue for Democrats.

The bill is very limited and defines custody as "those parties authorized or directed by a court order to withdraw or withhold food, fluids, or medical treatment."

There is an exemption for a proceeding "which no party disputes, and the court finds, that the incapacitated person while having capacity, had executed a written advance directive valid under applicably law that clearly authorized the withholding or or (sic) withdrawl (sic) of food and fluids or medical treatment in the applicable circumstances."

Incapacitated persons are defined as those "presently incapable of making relevant decisions concerning the provision, withholding or withdrawl (sic) of food fluids or medical treatment under applicable state law."

This legislation ensures that individuals like Terri Schiavo are guaranteed the same legal protections as convicted murderers like Ted Bundy.

Washington, DC, March 24, 2005—The Executive Director of the 17,000-member Christian Medical Association today said that because Terry Schiavo is able to take food and fluids by swallowing, withholding nutrition from her amounts to murder.

David Stevens, M.D., who holds a masters degree in ethics, explained, "In a murder mystery, the case often turns on a small piece of evidence initially overlooked. Experts viewing the videos of Terri Schiavo have focused on signs such as her recognizing her family. It is easy to actually overlook the most important evidence: Terri Schiavo is not drooling. She is able to swallow her own secretions. And that is a crucial distinction with immense ethical implications.

"Feeding tubes are put in patients for many reasons, but in patients like Terri, they are often put in solely for the sake of convenience. That's because giving fluids and food a spoonful at a time in a patient like Terri could take up to an hour or two, whereas a bag of liquid food and fluids can be hung and gets the job done automatically.

"That means that prohibiting her family and nursing staff from trying to feed her, which Terri Schiavo's husband and the courts have prohibited, amounts to murder. Refusing to offer food and liquid to a patient who can eat or drink is passive euthanasia. Sustenance critical to the maintenance of life has been withheld.

"To not offer Terri Schiavo food and water by mouth, when it is obvious that she can swallow, morally is murder.

"Some ethicists will argue for removing a feeding tube from a patient in certain situations. But when that route is chosen, medical personnel always offer the patient food and water. Why? Because if it is not offered, then the medical personnel--not the disease--have killed the patient. Ethicists would say that it is no different than refusing to feed a totally dependent three-year-old or chaining up a dog and starving it to death.

"When a doctor removes a respirator from a dying patient, the doctor's goal is to take away a burdensome therapy that is just prolonging the dying process. The doctor would be delighted if the patient began breathing on her own and improved.

"But if along with removing the respirator, medical personnel were to also remove the oxygen from the air in the room, the patient would have no chance at all to survive. The intent in such a case would be clear--to make sure the patient died.

"Many people remain deeply disturbed by the Terri Schiavo case because they know something isn't right; yet they have had difficulty articulating why. Simply put, the intent of those involved in removing her tube is not to removed a burdensome therapy. It is to remove a burdensome patient.”

Paul Cellucci is writing a book about his time as ambassador to Canada

OTTAWA (CP) - Paul Cellucci was never one to bite his tongue, and now the former U.S. ambassador to Canada is getting ready to tell his story in a new book.

Cellucci has signed a deal with Toronto publisher Key Porter Books to publish Unquiet Diplomacy, due out in September.

A first draft is already in, the publisher said Monday.

Cellucci, a friend of U.S. President George W. Bush and a former Massachusetts governor, was appointed by Bush in 2001 and left office this month.

Cellucci was known for his candid and outspoken diplomacy, which became his signature as ambassador. During his four years in Ottawa, he urged Canada to boost military spending, improve security and join the U.S. missile defence plan.

"It was a style that some Canadians loved and others loved to hate, but which left no one indifferent," said publisher Anna Porter.

"Unquiet Diplomacy sounds a little too academic, but it isn't - he isn't. The book reads likes he speaks.

"He's very outspoken and the book is very honest."

The book will touch on continuing Canada-U.S. trade disputes such as softwood lumber, and Ottawa's refusal to join the missile defence shield.

"There have been some very tough times during Cellucci's years in Canada and in this book he, in his characteristically open and forthright fashion, addresses all of the issues that affect our complex relationship," a news release said.

"His years as a United States ambassador will be remembered as important and transformative ones, unfolding in the shadow of 9-11 and the American-led war on terror."

Porter wouldn't say how much Cellucci is being paid, but added that cash is not the driving force behind the book.

"He's writing it because he wants the story told."

Cellucci is currently vacationing in Italy, Porter said.

Possibly my last post on Terri Schiavo

To say that I don't understand why certain parties are so intent on killing Terri Schiavo is a huge understatement. I've read a great deal of newspaper articles, magazine stories and of course, blogs about this poor woman in the last few weeks, and still I fail to see any convincing argument that would justify starving her to death.

If it will make her 'husband' and judge Greer happy, by all means take away her feeding tube, but for God's sake allow someone to feed her with a spoon. After all, as doctors have noted, she doesn't drool, which means she is swallowing 1.5 to 2 litres of her own saliva each day.

Give her soup!

When did the act of feeding someone with a spoon become an artificial life support system?

There are, in my opinion, numerous questions that must be answered before this woman dies. How will it profit her family or society at large, if after her death it is discovered that there were indeed mitiigating circumstances, and perhaps medical testimonies that should have been investigated and further explored before sentencing her to death?

I find the whole thing shameful.

The survey of 2,000 Germans by Berlin's Free University and pollsters Forsa found 24 percent of those living in western Germany want the Wall back -- double the eastern level.

In Berlin itself, 11 percent of westerners and 8 percent of easterners said "yes" when asked: "Would it be better if the Wall between East and West were still standing?."

The Berlin Wall was breached on Nov. 9, 1989, paving the way for the unification of Communist East Germany with the West on Oct. 3, 1990. But billions of euros (dollars) spent rebuilding the east have failed to prop up the depressed region, which is plagued by high unemployment and a shrinking population.

The poll also found that 47 percent of the easterners agree with the statement that the West "acquired the east like a colony," while 58 percent of the westerners back the statement that "easterners tend to wallow in self-pity."

National Post Poll

The National Post has an online poll where the question is "What should be done about Terri Schiavo?" As of 1:40pm the results are:

30.74 % - She should be kept alive
69.26 % - She should be allowed to die

I can't for the life of me believe that almost 70% of the respondents want to see Terri Schiavo killed.

Has this poll been 'swarmed' by the liberal left moonbats, or am I so totally wrong in thinking that there are enough discrepancies in this case to warrant further investigation before an innocent woman is killed?

We are about to take our first step down the slippery slope of regulating the internet. I'm worried that because I download LOTS of open source programs, and therefore use more bandwidth than say, my great aunt, I am going to find myself on the "Big List Of Wipo Miscreants and Evil doers" (BLOWME).

From a March 24 CBC article:

OTTAWA - The federal government announced several proposed changes to Canada's Copyright Act on Thursday, aimed at stopping file sharing using programs like Kazaa.

If the amendments become law, internet service providers would be forced to make records of users who swap large numbers of songs or other material – like movies and television programs – online.

According to the announcement, the changes would "clarify that the unauthorized posting or the peer-to-peer file-sharing of material on the Internet will constitute an infringement of copyright.

"It will also be made clear that private copies of sound recordings cannot be uploaded or further distributed."

The proposed amendments are expected to be introduced in the House of Commons later in the spring.

The music industry is pushing to have the Copyright Act amended so it will be easier to sue file sharers in court.

"Clearly, once we get implementation there'll be no doubt ... it'll be illegal to engage in unauthorized file-sharing," Graham Henderson, the head of the Canadian Recording Industry Association, told the Canadian Press.

Under the reformed law, companies like Bell, Rogers and Shaw would be compelled to "play a role in curbing the misuse of their facilities for copyright infringement."

They and other service providers would have to alert subscribers when their connections are used for illegal file sharing, and would have to document the warnings that are sent out.

A court order would still be needed from prosecutors to have a look at the logs and identify the users in question.

The legislation also requires Canada to sign two international treaties sponsored by the World Intellectual Property Organization. By joining the treaties, the government would make it illegal for Canadians to swap music online.

The thing is, Terry Schiavo is:
1.   NOT on a machine to help her breathe
2.   NOT on a machine to keep her heart beating
3.   NOT on any machine designed to prolong life whatsoever
4.   NOT being fed intravenously for any reason other than the convenience of the hospice staff
5.   NOT without the love and support of a close family

She is like a helpless baby, whose parents would certainly be charged with murder, if they refused to feed it because it was severely mentally and physically disabled, and therefore incapable of feeding itself.

She is being killed because she can't use a spoon.

I've been reading about the Terri Schiavo fiasco, and trying to mentally distance myself from the religous/christian arguments. Not because I am not a christian, (I'm a Pancake Tuesday Adventist) but because I thought there was something more to the whole thing that hasn't been brought up yet.

John Gibson at Fox News says what I wanted to say, and was going to say, before he said it. (that's my story)

"... A huge argument has broken out about whether or not Congress and the president should have stuck their nose into the Terri Schiavo case. Some people say thank God they did. Some say it's the end of the Republic — that Madison is rolling in his grave and that the separation of powers have been trampled by Congress butting into the business of the state courts.

I say we never would be in this position if it weren't for the Florida courts recognizing what is clearly a sham marriage.

At this point, Michael Schiavo (search) asserted his right as husband and guardian to insist his wife Terri's feeding tube be removed. At this point Michael Schiavo is married to Terri Schiavo only for the purpose of ending her life.

The reason I say that is that he has another "wife," has two kids by her and is leading another life.

If Terri Schiavo were in good enough shape to say whether she wanted to live or die, she might first say she wants a divorce, considering the fact her husband has another wife and two kids.

And if she were to do that, would Michael Schiavo still have the standing to claim guardianship to be able to pull her feeding tube? No.

If he didn't have that guardianship, who would? Her parents. Would they pull the feeding tube? No. Would it then be necessary for Congress and the president to get involved? No.

So this whole thing turns on whether Michael and Terri Schiavo are really married and the fact that the Florida courts continue to recognize a marriage that exists only for the purpose of killing her. Surely the Florida courts cannot be that dumb. And, if they are, then surely somebody else ought to get involved — perhaps even Congress and the president.

I don't think this is so hard. If you recognize reality you will see that as of Friday, when Michael Schiavo ordered the feeding tube removed, they weren't really married. They haven't been since he took the other "wife" and had two kids.

Are the Florida courts saying an ex-husband gets to decide when an ex-wife dies? If so, there is going to be a very long line at the court's front door..."

I really hit a nerve with some members of the Loony Left.

In a previous post, I likened Paul Martin's fawning over U2's Bono, to the hysterical theatrics of a lovestruck schoolgirl. Except, I happened to mention the "H" word.

The statement that caused such an uproar is:

Just mention the word Bono, and Paul Martin goes nuts.
Instead of acting like a respectable, distinguished leader of a country, he turns into a big, fat, sweaty, balding, homosexual groupie. Is this really necessary?

Balbulican in an effort to prove his theory that conservative homophobia is not merely media paranoia, managed to paranoically reduce my post to "... locker-room “faggot” insults..." A statement which I find extremely distasteful.

In the interest of not offending people that are nuts, or, big people, fat people, sweaty people, bald people, homosexual people, or heaven forbid, nutty, big, fat, sweaty, bald homosexuals, I offer this alternative for the humour challenged left:

Am I the only guy in Canada who could care less about Bono's plans? Am I the only guy that finds all this hero worship a little on the creepy side? Does Paul Martin think that if he lip synchs to U2 songs and claps Bono on the back enough, he can be absorb some of his legendary Irish coolness through his sweaty palms?

From a Yahoo news story, we get this breathless account of what went down:

The Globe and Mail, sensing a need to portray Martin in a more masculine light, plays it smart and doesn't bother to quote him.

It's starting to make a little more sense to me now. This article from E Online suggests that Martin didn't actually 'persuade' Bono and his band to come to Ottawa, as much as he PAID them to come:

Wow... I'm not sure what to make of this piece by Matt Labash in the March 21st edition of the Weekly Standard.
He doesn't pull any punches, and apart from only a few minor points, I found it hard to disagree with him, even though I badly, desperately wanted to.

It's starting to look like since the departure of Carolyn Parrish, the Liberals have been kicking around trying to find someone to take her place as the most out-spoken, ignorant retard in parliament.

Marlene Jennings is working overtime to win this most coveted of Liberal awards.

This is what she said yesterday:

"... Let's embarrass the hell out of the Americans in front of other countries that they are attempting to negotiate with on new binational trade agreements... Let's take out ads in South Korea's newspapers, in some of the newsstands, countries in the former Soviet Union..."

Yet, this is what was attributed to her on Feb 28th:

"... Marlene Jennings, a Montreal-area Liberal MP and delegation participant, acknowledged that she isn't expecting "immediate results," but rather wants to build long-term relationships with some of her U.S. counterparts... "

What, pray tell, kind of long term relationship does she think would be the outcome of a campaign to embarrass the Americans?

Belinda Stronach did a good job of tearing her a new one:

Could the Prime Minister explain how this is going to foster stronger Canada-U.S. relations to get the border open?" she asked. She later said that Ms. Jennings must be held accountable for her remarks, but stopped short of saying the PM should ask her to resign.

Isn't it funny how her defence is that her "comments were taken out of context", but when she was recently let loose by Paul Martin to attack Monte Solberg and his blog, the very first thing she did was purposely take Monte's comments out of context?

It's clear that she doesn't 'get' satire, I wonder if she 'gets' irony?

According to this story, Marlene Jennings could have just as easily ended up with "an unprotected double anal" (as they call it in the business).

If I die, please don't hire this guy to write my eulogy.

Have you ever heard of "Cough Syncope"? Well up until Saturday night, I hadn't either. Let me tell you that it can be quite frightening, not just for the person having the attack, but also for those family members and significant others who witness it.

So, in order to prevent further episodes, I have decided to abandon one of the long standing traditions of the RightJab clan.

That's right, I'm giving up my smokes.

I have frequently engaged in life threatening activities. Sometimes on order, and sometimes on a lark. I never gave my own safety a second thought and have the broken bones, scars and stories to prove it. But you know what? When RightJab slips this mortal coil, I don't want it to be said that "he coughed himself to death".

I would much rather go as my legendary Great-Great RightJab did, when he drowned after falling into a vat of whisky in a distillery. A testament to his strength and conviction was that he bravely fought off 3 rescue attempts before succumbing.

From a CTV story about Russel Bray's work with MADD:

".... MADD Canada CEO Andrew Murie confirmed that the accused had been working at the national office as a School Outreach Program Manager.
"All I can tell you is that he's been terminated and we feel very comfortable that there's no connection between his employment and these charges," Murie told CTV.ca on Thursday.
"He was involved in the production of some of our youth materials but he had no contact with youth at all, it was all in the office type of occupation," Murie said....".

It seems that Bray's weblog entry from January 23, 2004 contradicts Andrew Murie's statements:

Fear and loathing in St. John's ...
"Well, here, goes nothing. I had a show yesterday in St. John's, it was in a little community centre and the local Chapter was busing in 8 schools to come to the 5 shows I had planned throughout the day. So I arrived at the centre for 8am, set up all my equipment until 9:30am, went out to my car to get some CDs, and started my first show. Now the show I was doing was for elementary students and it only lasts half an hour....."

I've got nothing against Murie, but either he or someone on his staff screwed up, because it looks like this guy's job was driving all over the country giving MADD presentations to schools.

I just read a story in the Toronto Sun about Mississauga's newest paedophile Russel Bray . The story in the Sun described him as a somewhat typical angst ridden airhead, with "dark horrible secrets". Since he was reported to have been a blogger, and since I have far too much time on my hands, I decided to try to see what I could find out about him. Google cache is handy.

His blog (which has been deleted) is wholly unremarkable (not that mine is all that remarkable) except for his slightly interesting preference for Marxism, Socialism, Lenin, Trotsky etc. He professes to be highly interested in Social Justice, which is a good thing because I imagine he is about to get a ton of it.

WTF is Lloyd Axworthy smoking?

Hat tip to David Frum's Diary and Occam's Carbunkle for pointing out this absolutely incredible rant from Pink Lloyd.

In a mind-boggleingly(sp?) condescending tone, Pink Lloyd exposes his anti-American socialist core as he rips into Condoleezza Rice questioning her intelligence, and characterising George Bush as a control freak. How could he possibly think that such a venomous outpouring is in any way constructive or helpful? Reading it made me question his sanity and wonder how such a narrow minded fool could ever have been a Cabinet Minister, never mind the president of the University of Winnipeg.

Speaking of which, and just for a laugh, nip over to Lloyd's page on the University's website and count the number of spelling mistakes and gross grammatical errors. He should be ashamed of himself, but maybe the President of a Canadian University, much like a Cabinet Minister in the Canadian parliament is under no obligation to achieve professional competence, or lead by example.

If you look at what is written on the U of W's site, and read what he wrote in the Winnipeg Free Press, you wouldn't be faulted for assuming that Lloyd thinks he does his best writing when he's drunk.

Paul Martin and his Liberals have got BMD all wrong

I could have gotten this Paul Martin quote from the CBC or CTV or the Toronto Star or even the Globe and Mail, but since Fox News is now available in Canada, I will attempt to link to their stories as often as I can, hopefully encouraging Canadians to pay more attention to news that is in fact more "Fair and Balanced" than anything that has ever passed for news in Canada.

You see, the problem with the BMD system is that, well, it's just a hypothetical situation.

Hypothetically, North Korea may at some point decide to fire a rocket at the USA. Then, the US would hypothetically speaking, be forced to defend it's citizens by firing a rocket of it's own to intercept and destroy the incoming North Korean rocket. Since it is in the best interest of the USA to intercept this missile as soon as possible, possibly to allow a little bit of time for a second shot at it in case the first intercept misses, they will probably engage this incoming rocket as soon as it enters North American airspace, to the great (non-hypothetical) annoyance of Paul Martin and his gang. This is where it gets interesting.

If Canada is a sovereign nation intent on defending it's airspace, shouldn't we take a very dim view of any nation, let's say North Korea, that would endeavour to launch missiles through our airspace, regardless of the intended target?
Shouldn't Canada as a sovereign nation, interpret this intrusion on our airspace by hypothetical North Korean missiles as an act of war?

Paul Martin would have you believe that if the Americans fire a rocket to shoot down an incoming rocket, then this constitutes a greater threat to Canada's sovereignty than the fact that somebody else is using our airspace as a convenient route for their rockets to attack the Americans. Unless of course, the North Koreans requested the use of our airspace to attack the Americans, then it would be fair to make the Americans make the same request.

This is idiotic.

I'm back

For the 3 people who occasionally visit this blog (close personal friends and relatives not included) who may be wondering where the hell I've been, I have just recovered from the worst case of flu that I have ever had. For 3 weeks, I was sure that death was just around the corner, and I was too busy putting my estate in order to worry about posting to this blog.

I'm feeling much better now, so sporadic posting, for which this blog is best known, will now resume.

Ignorance is bliss, but curable

Reading has never been regarded as a spectator sport, nor has it ever been especially popular at parties or other places where social activities occur. Because it is best enjoyed alone, in bed, perhaps secretly, it is more akin to masturbation than any other activity. This explains why people rarely discuss what they're reading or why. Reading, is actually anti-social behaviour.

By reading, you gain the information required to question your professors, teachers, political leaders and anyone else intent on controlling your thoughts and behaviour. In fact, you may also gain the insight required to question your own thoughts and behaviour.

In our day to day existence, we hope that our employers, leaders, and significant others when making decisions that may impact our lives, make these decisions based on facts. We are comfortable in the belief that these people have made the decisions they did because they knew all the facts and the implications of their decisions, and therefore, their decisions were informed ones. We trust them, and because we trust them, we don't have to read all the details ourselves.

Trust is an extremely powerful tool. When you give someone your trust, you are giving them the keys to your happiness. You are delegating a portion of your freedom to another individual. Your trust should not be given simply to whoever asks for it.

Trust is also an extremely powerful weapon. For example, the Liberal Government trusts that the people of Canada won't find out how badly the country is being run. They trust that the people of Canada will continue to blindly vote for the Liberal Party because the average Canadian won't take the time to read the countless stories, essays and articles (most of which, sadly, do not contain pictures) on the countless examples of Liberal waste, deceit, corruption, scandal and nepotism which one normally encounters only in socialist dictatorships.

You trust them to do something, and they trust you will do nothing. When they do nothing, you are disappointed. If you were to do something, the whole Liberal system could come crashing down.

After all, what informed person would vote to spend 2 billion dollars on a database that doesn't do anything? Furthermore, would an informed person allow someone who made a 2 billion dollar mistake to keep his job and perhaps make more costly errors?

Would an informed person insist that when it comes to running a hospital, and dealing with healthcare items in general, it is the government and not doctors and hospital administrators who should be trusted to ensure people don't die needlessly?

Would an informed person castigate Danny Williams for un-Canadian behaviour because he removed the Canadian Flag from the provincial buildings in Newfoundland, but turn a blind eye when Paul Martin removes the Canadian Flag from the masts of ships in Canada Steamship Lines?

Would an informed person be able to compare and contrast these two actions and determine which was a simple protest meant to draw attention to a broken promise, and which was intended to avoid paying Canadian taxes by unscrupulous methods?

If Canada is ever to be spared the ravages of future Liberal governments, and if she is ever to recover the prosperity and international respect she once had, the voters of this country have to be informed, and the job is too important to be left to the likes of CBC and the Toronto Star.

Books are passé, newspapers are biased, TV is more concerned with selling advertising, ditto magazines. Blogs are the best hope for getting the citizens interested, informed, and angry enough to effect political change.

Let me see if I have this right.

1) The USA is the most powerful country in the world
2) Canada is the mythical land of tomorrow

Therefore if we keep paying our taxes, and not ask too many questions about where all the money is going, we will wake up one sunny day to find, what exactly? That the US has been replaced by France as the powerful country in the world?Or... Belgium? Sweden?

This brings us to the concept of "tomorrow". When is "tomorrow"? According to Paul Martin, it must be the day after the fall of the US as TMPCITW, because if next week the US is still the most powerful country in the world, than it clearly can't be tomorrow yet.

I was momentarily embarrassed for him for having said something so distinctly juvenile, and then I was disgusted.

OTTAWA (AFP) - Hopes for early mass protests in the streets of Ottawa on the eve of Tuesday's visit by US President George W. Bush fizzled out, as journalists outnumbered demonstrators. A loose coalition of groups opposed to just about everything Bush supports had promised two demonstrations hours before Bush was due to jet into Ottawa Tuesday aboard Air Force One.
The first demonstration -- of Palestinians and sympathisers of the Palestinian cause opposed to Washington's support of Israel -- attracted less than 40 demonstrators. According to a quick head count by journalists, the protest attracted 39 demonstrators, 42 journalists and television crew members and three police officers.
A second, ostensibly larger, demonstration scheduled for the midst of the evening rush hour -- was called by a group calling itself Students Against Bush. Nobody turned up. Further protests however were expected on Tuesday.
Efforts to contact protest organizers were unsuccessful, with the phone numbers listed by organizers remaining unanswered.

Great Smokers in History

My Great-Grandfather, Grandfather, all my uncles, my father, and I smoke. Its what the men in my family are particularly good at. We also dabble in alcohol and snooker. These proud traditions have been handed down from father to son since the first RightJab escaped from Ireland in the mid 1800s to establish a humble debt collection service in one of the less touristy areas of Glasgow, Scotland.

I have fond memories of my carefree days as a young child, when after my chores, which consisted of stealing coal, milk, and newspapers from the neighbours, I would sit for hours with the men while they smoked, drank, strategized, argued, and occasionally fought. The air was blue with a mixture of pipe and cigarette smoke, and sometimes my cousins and I would see who could go the longest without blinking their eyes. It was all great fun, and we marvelled at the adult males whose eyes never got red, or teary no matter how heavy the smoke got. Those were the days!

Alas, the government has decided that the traditions of the RightJab family are in fact criminal, and if I was to behave as my father and his father before him, I would be thrown in jail for child endangerment. I can't smoke in a pub, within 10 metres of a public building, in a restaurant, where I work (even if I own the building), and now there is even a plan to ban me from smoking in my own car!

All of this strikes me as somewhat contrary to what the men in my family believe. The men in my family, on numerous occasions (WWl, WWll, Korea) have gone to war to protect the rights of a man to be able to sit in a pub, drink whiskey, smoke cigarettes, play snooker and darts while speaking ENGLISH.

They did not go to war under the pretence of safeguarding their nation from the evils of fascism and communism so much as they went to war to preserve their own lives in the manner in which they wanted to live them. They were convinced that if the Germans made it across the channel, bratwurst would trump pork pies, the bundesliga would pre-empt the premier league,whiskey distilleries would be bulldozed and massive schnapps factories built in their place, and they would all be forced to wear lederhosen and socks with their sandals.

They went to war to put an end to the insufferably barbaric practise of rationing sugar, tea, cigarettes and whiskey. They were steadfast in their belief that Germany was not going to win its war against the common man, and they made the enemy pay dearly for it's transgressions.

They were happy and content with their meagre slice of the socio-political slice of the pie, but when threatened, they fought and died for what they considered their human rights.

Fast forward 50-60 years.

The Germans lost, the Soviet Union has crumbled in much the same fashion as its wall did, democracy is spreading slowly but surely to places in the world that no one ever thought it would, and the veterans who made it all possible are being told that they have to go outside to have a smoke.

Veterans (and anyone old enough to remember what Canada was like prior to Trudeau) are upset that what they perceive to be their rights and liberties have been taken away not by the Fascists or Communists of a foreign country, but by the elected officials of Canada.

These rights dont start and stop with smoking and drinking. Rather, they extend to what kind of cookie you can eat, what kind of dog you can own, your obligation to wear a helmet on a bicycle and seatbelts in a car, your inability to own firearms, and the kind of medical treatment you can or can not receive. The list is amazingly long, and quite possibly endless, as new laws are seemingly being written daily.

Canada has previously gone to war to stop the spread of Socialism, but now, according to the Liberal Party of Canada, socialist policies are just what this country need to sort itself out. And, thanks to Canada's Socialist Party, the proletariat will no longer be forced to read the ingredients label on bags of cookies, chips, and pies. This will allow the people to shop faster and possibly free up their social calendar to allow them to get to the anti-poverty demonstrations, and Pro-Saddam marches on time.

However, I believe that as long as Carolyn Boorish was intent on directing her snide remarks south of the border, Paul Martin didn't have a problem with letting private members express their opinions, BUT... As soon as she started sniping at him and the rest of the Liberal cabinet, she was toast.

Canada's military is spending $500,000 to develop chameleon-like camouflaging. The two-year project aims to create a material that mimics the temperature of any terrain, thus preventing enemies armed with infrared sensors from spotting our soldiers. Philip Twardawa, an engineering physicist with Defence Research and Development Canada, told the Halifax Daily News that heat-seeking sensors turn any temperature anomaly on the battlefield into a potential target. The new camouflage won't actually get cooler in a shady forest -- or warmer in sunshine. "Their uniform isn't going to change in the sense of its thermal properties," Mr. Twardawa said. "It's just that it's going to change the way it processes the infrared signature." By injecting small amounts of temperature-sensitive electrochromic fluids into their uniforms, it's hoped soldiers will all but vanish on the battlefield.

I've got news for the eggheads at NDHQ. Our soldiers have already vanished from the battlefield.

If you suddenly received word from a couple of friendly cops that the crack addict and ex-convict who had been stalking your girlfriend (his ex-wife) and promising violence against her, and who openly threatened grievous bodily injury to yourself, was found dead this morning, how would you feel?

Would you feel happy? How about, relieved? Would you feel like a weight had been lifted from your shoulders? Would you say ... "Thank Christ... I'm glad that bastard got what was coming to him"?

If this person, after repeated failed attempts at rehab, and with no foreseeable future of sobriety, had openly and vigorously declared to the various social workers and judges he had appeared before, that his only desire was to cause as much hardship, and as many problems as possible to your girlfriend and yourself, how would you feel?

If you lived every day, answering crank phone calls, and wondering if the car that was slowly making it's way up the block, was being driven by the guy who had made all those threats, was suddenly going to stop, the driver get out, and make a mad rush to attack your home and thrust you into the position of defending your life, and the life of everyone who happens to be in the house at that time, would you be at all happy to hear the news of his demise?

By now most of you are saying "good riddance".

Ok, I can agree with that, but, what do you tell his 12 year old son?

As an adult, you know better than to believe the stories of a drug addict. You know that addicts will tell you anything but the truth.

A kid, on the other hand, wants to believe what his father tells him. He may believe all the stories about the evil "Children's Aid Society" and how they are conspiring with his mother to keep him from his dad. He may believe, as he has been repeatedly told, that a huge pile of undelivered birthday and Christmas presents await him at his father's house, but only after the evil CAS decides that his father has fulfilled his part of the bargain, and visitation can begin. He may believe his father's version of how the family business went bankrupt, and how the court documents that state he was spending 10 thousand dollars a month on cocaine aren't worth the paper they are printed on. A kid doesn't know the depths that an addict will stoop to, and the lies he will tell in order to appear clean.

This boy hasn't been able to see his dad for 18 months because of his father's inability or refusal to pass a drug test.

This boy had hopes for his father. He had dreams of going fishing, and sitting around a campfire with his dad, like they used to, before crack became the only important thing in his life. He doesn't really know his father because he was only 5 when he started doing drugs, and he was only 7 when his father left. He is 12 and his father is dead. His memories are clouded by time and wishful thinking.

It's easy to sit back and think how your life just got easier and more secure by the death of someone who had made it their goal to make you feel insecure and threatened.

The hard part is caring for a boy who has lost his father, and a lot of hopes and dreams.

The US Election - A Canadian Conservative View

Could someone please enlighten me as to the appropriateness, or even soundness of the plan to have Bill Clinton campaign with John Kerry?

Are we to assume that these two men share common values, goals and plans for the US, and that somehow this is a good thing?

How can Bill Clinton, a past President who was more interested in getting blowjobs from young and impressionable interns - and thereby wastefully directing the full might of the FBI and other law enforcement agencies into tracking down witnesses for his impossible defence - than he was in tracking down the 9/11 hijackers who were happily immersed in their highly suspicious flight training for 18 months, possibly be construed as helpful?

Bill Clinton, the same guy who was more interested in what was happening under his desk than what was happening outside the White House where real people, assuming their best interests were being looked after, went about their daily activities, blissfully unaware that their safety was about to be compromised in a most astounding way.

The 1993 World Trade centre bombing, the attack on the USS Cole, the embassy bombings, all share one thing in common. None of them were deemed worthy enough to generate an armed response. In this, Kerry and Clinton agree.

Kerry has been wrong on every single major conflict during his career in the senate. From criticizing Reagan’s stance against Soviet aggression and arms build-up, to his vote against pre-empting communist expansion in the Caribbean, to the 1991 Gulf War, to his current inability accept that the US is, in fact, currently engaged in a Global War on Terrorism (GWOT). In Kerry’s world, every problem, or problematic dictator, can be talked into submission, appeasement, or reduced to nuisance proportions, cleanly eliminating the necessity for armed intervention, or pre-emption.

Kerry’s preferred world view is the one from his rose coloured glasses, and he is at ease with the resulting tunnel vision that accompanies their wear. George Bush, on the other hand, recognizes these rose coloured glasses for what they are, blinders. Bush has his eyes wide open in the GWOT, he is intent on succeeding where Kerry and Clinton prefer and preferred not to go.

For many in the US, this is a single issue election. Some think it’s all about the economy, for others it’s about healthcare, some consider the abortion or same sex marriage arguments worthy of determining the next President. This election should be about the only single issue that directly impacts all the other issues, the GWOT.

The war on terrorism affects the economy, not by the ever increasing costs of the 3Bs (Bullets, Bombs and Barbed wire) that the US military is using on a fantastic scale, but on the ongoing cost of the removal and replacement of 2 towers in New York, and the subsequent loss of tourism, air travel, and social costs.

The war also affects healthcare. How many were injured in 9/11? How many are still being cared for by the healthcare system for either physical or emotional injuries? How many more can the current system handle? Again, what is the cost in general to the economy and to the healthcare system if another 9/11 is allowed to happen?

John Kerry pines for the day when America can get back to 9/10, but that day will never come with his policies.

I have a primitive view of the current GWOT, and compare it to another episode in history, piracy on the high seas.

In the 17^th and 18^th centuries, piracy was rampant. In the 19^th century, a plan was eventually formulated to reduce the number of pirate friendly ports that a nefarious captain could turn to. By reducing these “safe harbours”, and by putting large sums of gold in the hands of those who volunteered information as to their whereabouts, and by making the most of new technology (steam engines) the British Navy finally succeeded in making the seas a safe place (relatively speaking). A very simple yet no doubt costly plan, it has much in common with the Bush plan.

I only hope that Bush is re-elected, and allowed to continue with his plan, because if Kerry gets the nod, terrorism could quite easily be the protracted battle that the current Islamic Pirates^TM would prefer.

We know he has a blood disease that is depressing his immune system. We know that he has suddenly dropped considerable weight – possibly as much as 1/3 of all his body weight. We know that he is suffering intermittent mental dysfunction. What does this sound like?

Former Romanian intelligence chief Ion Pacepa tells in his very interesting memoirs that the Ceaucescu regime taped Arafat’s orgies with his body guards. If true, Arafat would a great deal to conceal from his people and his murderously anti-homosexual supporters in the Islamic world.

Before airlifting Arafat to Paris, French Foreign Minister Michel Barnier promised to “stand by” him. Was that why Arafat chose to be treated in France rather in any of the fraternal Arab countries that supposedly support his movement – because he could trust the French to protect his intimate secrets?

UN Weapons Inspectors

There has been a lot of talk recently about the Al QaQaa munitions dump, and whether or not the UN knew exactly what was contained therein.

There has also been much screaming and finger pointing by a certain flip-flopping, panty waisted, coward and uber liberal from Massachusetts (who shall remain nameless) that 380 tons of extremely dangerous explosives, of the variety used to trigger nuclear weapons, has gone missing due to incompetence of George W Bush. I have a few problems with this assertion.

To date, US troops have found over 7000 tons of munitions (14 million pounds!). This in itself is peculiar, since it has been widely proclaimed by the Left, Democrats, Liberals and Socialists the world over that "BUSH LIED" and there were in fact, no WMDs in Iraq.

I find it odd in the extreme, that the Left pounced on the President for going to war when there were no WMDs, now pounce on the President because he has allowed the WMDs in Iraq to disappear. You can't have it both ways Baby.

One other thing that kinda bugs me is the assertion that since Dubya is the Commander-in-Chief of the US Forces, it is his fault that the munitions were pilfered. I have a hard time believing that one of the duties of the CinC is standing guard around ammunition dumps in the middle of the desert.

Every time I hear somebody say that the Weapons Inspectors should have been given more time, I cringe.

Their job wasn't to drive aimlessly through the desert, or probe basements in apartment blocks searching for weapons, as people like John Kerry, and Paul Martin would have us believe. Rather, the job of the Inspectors was to inspect the disarmament of Iraq that Saddam Hussein agreed to as a condition of his surrender after the Persian Gulf War.

The UN knew what kind of weapons and weapon systems that he had, and it was up to the inspectors to inspect their destruction, PERIOD.

Let's assume that a "Weapon of Mass Destruction" is the size of refrigerator, now let's pretend that Iraq had 1000 of them and they were painted blue. Given that Iraq is the approximate size of Texas, how many weapons inspectors would you need to scour Texas and find 1000 blue refrigerators? Could it even be done in a way that would guarantee 100% success? Wouldn't it be more efficient to tell the Texans to voluntarily bring all their blue fridges to a central location so that they could be verifiably destroyed by a team of inspectors?

This was what the world expected from the weapons inspectors, but Hans Blix and company either didn't understand their job, or were intent on not performing it in the manner that they were hired to.

Another thoroughly entertaining column from Mark Steyn in The Spectator, where he writes about John Kerry's idea that terrorism is a nuisance.

The ‘I’ll hunt down and kill America’s enemies’ line was written for him and planted on his lips. The ‘It’s just a nuisance like prostitution’ line is his, and how he really thinks of the issue. What an odd analogy. Your average jihadist won’t take kindly to having his martyrdom operation compared with the decadent infidels’ sex industry, but the rest of us shouldn’t be that happy about it either.

And I LOVE this line:

It seems to me that John Edwards has the right idea. In the gym of Newton High School in Iowa this week, he skipped the dreary Kerry-as-foreign-policy-genius pitch and cut straight to the Second Coming. ‘We will stop juvenile diabetes, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and other debilitating diseases,’ he assured the crowd and, warming to his theme, turned to the death last weekend of Christopher (Superman) Reeve. ‘When John Kerry is president, people like Chris Reeve are going to get up out of that wheelchair and walk again.’ Read his lips: No new crutches. Now that’s a campaign promise. President Kerry may be paralysed by nuance, but no one else will be.

That's all I can say about J. Damon's letter to Mark Steyn. The strange thing is, nothing in the letter is 'new' information.

The ability to compare and contrast various world events seems to me to be something the Mainstream media should be actively engaged in. Rather than hyping one story all out of proportion and having Wolf Blitzer or some equally obnoxious talking-head squeeze it to death before dumping it, never to be heard from again, in favour of a NEW over-blown, over-hyped, inconsequential tidbit.

There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq during the month of January..... In the fair city of Detroit there were 35 murders in the month of January.That's just one American city, about as deadly as the entire war torn country of Iraq.When some claim President Bush shouldn't have started this war, consider the following...

FDR...
led us into World War II. Germany never attacked us: Japan did. From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost, an average of 112,500 per year.

Truman...
finished that war and started one in Korea, North Korea never attacked us. From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost, an average of 18,334 per year.

John F. Kennedy...
started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Vietnam never attacked us.

Johnson...
turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost, an average of 5,800 per year.

Clinton...
went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent, Bosnia never attacked us. (we are STILL there). He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions.

liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Libya, Iran and North Korea without firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people.

The Democrats (and media) are complaining about how long the war is taking, but...
It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound! That was a 51-day operation.

We've been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for less time than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.

It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Ted Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick.

It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida !!!!

Our Commander-In-Chief is doing the best job he knows how. The military is doing a superb job, given the circumstances.The biased media hopes we are too ignorant to realize the facts.

Bush vs Kerry Debate #2

It was a clear win for Bush. He seemed much more comfortable, trustworthy, and honest, while Kerry was name-dropping every Republican he'd ever met, in a bid, I assume, to make it look like he really isn't the uberliberal panty waist that everyone thinks he is.

The unasked questions: Is there anything you can ask John Kerry that he doesn't have a plan for? Is his plan to have a plan for everything? If you ask him whether he's concerned that something might come up that he doesn't have a plan for, does he have a plan to deal with things he hasn't planned? Tonight during the presidential debate, John Kerry said that he opposes abortion as an article of faith but that he cannot impose that belief on others. I will respect liberals when they say such things on abortion or gay rights when they consistently demonstrate that they will not impose their beliefs on others when it comes to tax policy, environmental regulations or, in Canada, monopolistic, state-run health care.

A Nation Diminished

From today's Ottawa Citizen comes a story about Canada's spending (or lack thereof) on the Canadian Forces. It is absolutely shameful that we have let the Liberal Party of Canada get away with this nonsense.

- Canada spends approximately $395 per capita on defence.

- The United Kingdom spends approximately $1,425 per capita on defence.

- The United States spends approximately $2,000 per capita on defence.

Per capita spending on the Forces is $395 , whereas per capita spending on arts and culture is $217. Not to take any money away from ballerinas, oboe players, or starving artists, but I'm sure we could scrape together another hundred bucks or so, and attempt to be the country we once were.

We could do with a little more of this, and a lot less of this

Don't take the word of your lazy rolling-news update anchor or the AP rewrite guy on the Duelfer findings on Iraq. Instead, read the report for yourself. It is an amazing document. It renders John Kerry, on foreign policy and national security, either a complacent fool or an utter fraud. It's not about WMD, it's about the top-to-toe corruption of the entire international system by Saddam Hussein. The "global test" is a racket, and anybody who puts faith in it is jeopardizing America's national security. If the lazy US media won't pick up this story now, shame on them.

Canadian Submarine flounders at sea

If sovereignty DEMANDS certain measures and tools, then why are the purchases of such not an option? Why is the Government of Canada so insistent on coddling Canadians with expansive social programs with ever increasing costs, while at the same time, attempting to secure the country on the cheap?

Countries have militaries because they have Foreign Policies, not the other way around. We shouldn't put up with the results of Liberal socialism and it's corrosive, demoralizing effect on our military, then try to decide which operations we can accompany our allies on, and which ones are too expensive. They are our allies.

Canada denigrates, abuses and reduces her Armed Forces to the point where the Canadian Foreign Policy is not worth the paper it's printed on.

From the VP of Maritime Affairs:

"Sovereignty of Canada demands the capability to know what is happening in the air, on and below the surface of the sea along Canada's ocean approaches. Since Sep 11, the terrorist threat has been magnified, but sovereignty also includes broader threats like drug importation, illegal over-fishing and illegal immigration. Sovereignty is not something you depend on other nations to do for you. Only submarines will give below the surface capability on both the East and West coasts..........."

"Due to budgetary circumstances new submarines were never an option. Canada has had the good fortune of acquiring four submarines for the price of one new one. Maintaining the submarine capability for the safety and security of all Canadians is the overriding objective."

If you needed 4 cars, and someone offered you 4 late 80's to early 90's Ford Taurus' for the price of a brand new Ford Taurus, would you consider this a good deal, when this is what you actually wanted or needed?

Cheney vs Edwards

Dick Cheney scored with a flurry of uppercuts and haymakers, while the challenger danced. I didn't see, nor did I expect to see the proverbial "knockout", but I'm sure it will come on November 2nd, when the 2 John's will go down for the count.

My favourite summary of the debate was from Jim Geraghty:

"If I ever need to sue somebody, I’ll call John Edwards.

If I ever need somebody killed - like, you know, terrorists trying to kill me or my family - I’ll call Dick Cheney."
